Community Success Stories

Change is happening throughout Maine—not from the top down, but from our grassroots. Across our state, everyday Mainers have formed non-political alliances, and are taking action. Their successes have been built on foundations of increased awareness, awareness around very real and very painful realities within our communities. From there, the focus shifts not to partisanship, but to policy and policy makers. The effectiveness of this grassroots model is proof that when Mainers unite around common goals, we can achieve extraordinary results. Their stories are in fact the inspiration behind MaineVoices.org.

Why Maine Voices?

At MaineVoices.org, we believe in the power of non-political, community-driven action. Mainers from all walks of life are joining hands to identify and solve critical local and state issues. We are here to amplify those voices.

Main Issues We Face

••

Crime and Safety

Crime and safety in our municipalities is an escalating concern, but even using our recreational trails have many Mainers feeling vulnerable. Community-driven solutions, along with partnerships with local law enforcement and government officials, are essential to fostering a safer environment for everyone. But we need help and cooperation from Augusta. Together, we can find effective strategies to improve safety and restore peace of mind.

••

Mental Health and Wellness

Mental health issues are on the rise, exacerbated by addiction, isolation, and Maine’s deteriorating economic environment. Access to care and support is critical for individuals and families in need. By raising awareness, we can create a stronger, more resilient Maine where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

••

High Cost of Living

Maine has one of the highest costs of living in the nation, with soaring costs for food, energy, housing, and taxation. The resulting financial strain affects our quality of life and pushes families to their limits. Ineffective policy simply addresses the symptoms, often making things worse. Instead, we need to examine and embrace pragmatic policy that addresses the root causes of our escalating economic pressures.

••

Housing Crisis

The soaring demand for housing has way too many Mainers struggling to find affordable housing as prices escalate and options dwindle. Families and individuals are forced into difficult situations, including overcrowding and homelessness. It’s time to confront the primary sources of the issue and work together on innovative solutions that we can all continue to call Maine home.

••

Fentanyl Epidemic

The fentanyl epidemic is a public health crisis affecting communities across Maine. Record drug deaths over the past few years have left families and communities devastated, and local resources stretched thin. We must prioritize prevention, treatment, and support for those impacted by addiction. And again, must confront the root cause, focusing on a comprehensive approach to effectively combat this urgent issue.
